At last! The Second Prog All-Dayer at the Robin
Why ‘At Last’ you may ask? Well, this show was originally meant to happen on Sunday 28th June 2020. Thank you, Mr Covid-19! The line up has had to change a little as one artist was coming from Argentina and the other band are not available.
The John Hackett Band:
John Hackett is known for his distinctive flute sound in the world of progressive music and as an accomplished soloist.
Solo flautist, guitarist, singer and composer, John is best known for his work with his brother Steve Hackett, the former Genesis guitarist.
Since 2012, John has worked with classical guitarist Nick Fletcher.
The release of the rock album Another Life (on Esoteric Antenna) in 2015 was the catalyst to forming the new John Hackett Band with Nick, Jeremy Richardson and Duncan Parsons in 2016. Following several live shows, they recorded a new studio album We Are Not Alone, released in 2017 with a bonus live disc recorded in May 2016 at the Classic Rock Society in Maltby.
John Hackett is one of the few flautists in the world to play a vertical flute.
Andy Glass founded the band in 1980 with violinist Marc Elton and the following 4 years would see them make the Marquee Club their home and take the band to the main stage at Reading Rock Festival, Glastonbury and many others.
Following the split in 1985, a change of tack led to touring as guitarist for American soul legends Bill Withers and Geno Washington alongside his work as studio engineer and session musician.
After recording Ian Anderson in the studio, Andy was invited to take the job of ‘front of house’ sound engineer with Jethro Tull leading to five American tours and long outings through Europe and the UK.
Nothing would prove as satisfying as playing with Solstice though and so, inevitably, Andy reformed the band in it’s current line up in 2007.
To my ears, a fine celtic/folk/prog tinged acoustic guitarist, singer and songwriter.
Ken Slater. The Robin Prog Rock Club & Promotor
Carrie is a true born and bred Yorkshire lass, born in Hull. She first picked up a guitar at the age of four and made her first public performance at the tender age of nine, playing at a school concert.
When she got married and had children a few years later, she abandoned the guitar to the loft, where it gathered dust for two decades. She took up long distance running as a hobby.
This all changed with a chance meeting in 2011 with an old acquaintance who urged her to pick up the instrument again and Carrie took to gigging again.
The real turning point came when she attended a Gordon Giltrap concert only to be invited to step in as support act when the opening act backed out. Encouraged enormously by Gordon, she played and sang a short set of cover versions, and even accompanied him at one point. Gordon became her mentor.
In 2014, she finally put out her first full album ‘proper’, entitled “What If”, on which she was joined as guest musicians by not only Gordon but also – through him – Oliver Wakeman (son of Rick) and Ric Sanders from Fairport Convention. Her latest album is ‘Entity’.
Jump – The British Rock Band:
Eclectic band formed Wycombe 1990 with 14 studio albums available. Gigs/tours with Marillion, Fish and many progressive rock legends. More than 1200 shows with many at the Robin.
A compelling rock band with a progressive twist, wrapped in a story about a child raised as a psychopath.
The CIRCU5 band features founder and frontman, Steve Tilling, on vocals and guitar, Paul Clark (ex-David Cross Band) on guitar and vocals, Mark Kilminster (ex-Tin Spirits and Stamford Amp) on bass and vocals, and Lee Moulding (ex-Rewire the Time Machine) on drums and vocals.
The debut CIRCU5 album was released in 2017, featuring various special guests including Dave Gregory (ex-Tin Spirits/Big Big Train/XTC). The band are currently working on their second album, featuring the singles Skin Machine and Scars.
I am the Manic Whale:
I Am The Manic Whale was formed in Reading, England in 2015.
Our debut album, Everything Beautiful In Time was released in December 2015.
